    Zarah was ” persona …
Zarah was ” persona non grata” in Sweden after the war., because she cooperated with the nazis. It gives a ” story” about Zarah too. When she first meet Joseph Goebbels and they were talking he asked: Zarah? isnt that a jewish name? She answered: Isnt Joseph a jewish name too??? …. anyhow wonderful voice!!!

    Well, mazze00, if …
Well, mazze00, if what you say is true — and I am no Zarah Leander biographer and don’t know, and can’t dispute you–, then her beauty was only skin deep so that we are left with something of a record of her life that aesthetically pleases the eyes and ears, but little or nothing (?) that appeals to the heart.

  9. mazze00 says:

    no no, i think …
no no, i think historic research is quite clear about that. she was a tool. she enjoyed the fame, the money, the admiration. she probably didn´t care much for politics or didn´t want to care. if that makes her guilty…then she is. and of course, when she saw things were going down…she left.

    I read somewhere …
I read somewhere that Hitler admired Zarah, but that she was also tagged as an enemy of the Nazi state.for some period of time. (Was this because Zarah was her own self, and this same lady who could sing and act so fluently in German could also sang a Yiddish song, “Bei Mir Bist du Schoen”?) I understand that after Allied bombing destroyed her residence, she moved back to Sweden, refusing an offer of German citizenship.

I think this is a wonderful piece of MUSIC and a fantastic SINGER, who saw her opportunity and ran with it. The meaning of the song was very misunderstood at the time it was produced and how it was used. However, that is in the past – lets enjoy the singer and the song! God rest you Zarah!
