In today’s news, an Independent Commision Report has disclosed that "the U.S. military isn’t ready for a catastrophic attack on the country, and National Guard forces don’t have the equipment or training they need for the job…
… Even fewer Army National Guard units are combat-ready today than were nearly a year ago when the Commission on the National Guard and Reserves determined that 88 percent of the units were not prepared for the fight,."

Bush has been getting the Congress to keep throwing more and more money to Iraq… billions and billions of dollars sent to train and protect Iraqis at the expense of Americans’ security at home. :Looks like Iraqi soldiers ( al-Qaeda supporters among them, too????) get top preference. All the money spent since 9/11, and we’re still not safe? So Iraq, not US, is more important to the Bushies (and McCain, too) ??

it was never "safe" to begin with. Look at many of the neighborhoods in the states, many of them are not even safe from attacks from fellow Americans.

Never, its best that we leave the other countries be…. The only reason why other countries hate us are b/c we have to get into their business, and its obviously their business, why should we be spending billions and billions of dollars to help other countries when they never even helped us. Bush is really an idiot b/c they voted against war but no, he has to go his own way and finish what his dad did. but seriously… he really should get impeached.. Look at how many war bills he vetoed.

This is just old news the subject was dealt with in the constitution. That is the reason we must be able to have weapons to arm militias.

This country is much safer than most. In many countries, the government is the real fear of the people. National Guard/Reserve units, historically, have never been prepared to immediately enter into a combat situation. They nearly always require ‘remedial’ training to even approach active unit combat readiness. Look at the fiasco involving National Guard units during the first Gulf War. Some units actually refused to participate in active duty training, just check.

we’re about as safe as anywhere. a bit less than some, and a lot more than many. that said, the news you post is nothing more than same old same old; they’re going to ask for more money, fear works wonders.
look if they’re really that inadequate at managing our national security they need to be replaced. i am not talking about the troops, active or reserved, national guard or regular army. i mean i’m a vet, and i just don’t see our armed forces sitting on their butts, that’s not the way it works. who then is to blame? bush and company! who the hell fights a war of aggression on two fronts? two primary rules in war: keep your butt down, and don’t fight a war of agression on two fronts.
