The availability of resources serves as a second area where a student’s socioeconomic background places them at a disadvantage. In this context, the use of the term resources means the professional services of tutors and or specialist who are better able to identify and assist adolescents with learning disabilities or difficulties. The earlier these problems can be identified, the better able to function they will be in their future educational pursuits. Without the proper diagnosis and treatment, problems will persist and cause the adolescent to become frustrated with themselves and the learning process dramatically lowering their self-esteem and self-worth leading to decreased efforts and motivation.
