What do you think about going to a spiritual mystical college?

Where you learn about many different types of spirituality. Such as Sylvia Browne, Joel Olsteen, and Dr. Weiss. More info please visit

http://mystical-studies.webs.com/index.htm

I am in the beginning stages; I am just pitching a basic ideal. Thanks for all responses. God bless you!

Friendly….for trying to sound smart perhaps you may wish to examine your answer. Its Ferris State University not Ferris State College, my word. I would know, I got accepted there.

Secondly, I think those of you who are Christan’s should actually look at the site. Joel Olsteen is a Christan author. Key word, many different types of spirituality.

I think to broaden your horizons and abilities to think OPENLY about religions instead of having a closed mind about it, it might be good to take a semester or two going to a college specializing in that.

So many people now days are not open to anything other then what they believe. They are scared of that which they do not understand and it is for these reasons there are so many problems. Christan’s are scared to death of pagans, pagans are wanting to be able to practice without judgment, it goes on and on.

So yes, in my opinion and so help me if I’m the only one here that says it

I think I wouldn’t mind going to college to learn what they have to say about ALL religions, not just one, and to have non bias view would be amazing to see.

shanghai… I love your answer, truly I do, I am suspicious of the poorly put together website but I like the idea.

It’s your time and money. If you want to pour it down the drain, I will not object.

Who knows what it can lead to? Senator Ferris, who founded Ferris Institute, later Ferris State College, in Michigan, majored in oratory [public speaking] and phrenology [reading people's character by examining the bumps on their heads].

Perhaps you can learn how to scam other suckers and make your own pile of money.

    L. Ron Hubbard was a science fiction writer when he invented Scientology.

    George Bush attended Harvard.

It’s not spirituality, it’s spiritualism. Big difference. And no, I don’t believe it’s good.

I think it would be well advised if you are not too attached to eating, shelter, and all of those other frivolities that money buys.

spirituality is something studied more in your personal time there are religious studies but they usually only touch on the major and steer towards the facts not the spiritual side. I’m not sure about Dr. Weiss but sylvia browne and joel olsteen are from two VERY different paths. Joel Olsteen is a christian and a televangelist Sylvia Browne is more paranormal, psychic type.

Why would I restrict myself to a college that only teaches that?I’m all for looking into different spiritual practices, researching different religions, but going to a college to have it taught to you, doesn’t make sense to me.Spiritualism, having a connection to whatever deity it is that you have, its personal and can’t be taught.

If you’re interested in learning about different cultures and there religions and spiritual practices, look into studying sociology and anthropology.

I think that’s a great field. But I looked at the website you linked, and I would be very suspicious of that "school".

First, there are a lot of typos and misspellings in the web site copy — not a good sign for someone trying to earn credibility as an educational provider. There isn’t much information about the "school" itself, other than that it exists and you can go. No program, no curriculum, no costs….

I’m not sure I would say it’s a scam, but I don’t think it offers anything that can be taken seriously.

The field of education you are thinking about is called "Religious Studies" — "the academic field of multi-disciplinary, secular study of religious beliefs, behaviors, and institutions. It describes, compares, interprets, and explains religion, emphasizing systematic, historically-based, and cross-cultural perspectives." [1]

Another field to look into would be "Comaprative Religion" — the "field of religious study that analyzes the similarities and differences of themes, myths, rituals and concepts among the world’s religions. Religion can be defined as "Human beings’ relation to that which they regard as holy, sacred, spiritual, or divine".[2]

Both fields are closely related to philosophy, so you might want to look into that program as well.

All these are offered at regular, legitimate colleges. They are even offered at some online colleges. Look here to start:

Being an arm chair mystic, without the practical application is pretty pointless as its the practice that provides the results. I think that you need to be careful, those asking for lots of money are NOT advisable. Speak to lots of people about their experiences prior to embarking on anything. There are several colleges that offer courses in theology, you could try open university. What many say is that when you are ready then your teacher will appear, some may say that’s utter nonsense, but they are obviously not yet ready.
